Workplace Safety

PREVENTION OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES POLICY

Go Flooring Ltd. is committed to preventing the spread of all communicable diseases in the workplace, including but not limited to: Covid-19, norovirus, and seasonal influenza.

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance and important information required for Go Flooring Ltd. staff to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases. This policy applies to management, supervisors, workers, contractors, visitors, and clients.

The following protocols must be adhered to by all Go Flooring Ltd. management, staff, and clients:

1. Stay Home or Isolated from Others When You Are Sick

a. All employees should stay home or isolate from others in congregate living situations when they are sick or show symptoms of illness and follow public health recommendations.

b. If you become sick at work- Workers who develop symptoms upon arrival to work or become ill during the day should promptly separate themselves from other workers, inform their supervisors and go home or isolate from others in congregate living conditions.

2. Hygiene / Cleaning

a. Personal Hygiene/Cleaning- The most reliable way to prevent infection from surfaces is to wash your hands. Washing your hands often and practicing good hand hygiene will reduce the chances of getting or spreading germs. Washing your hands with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds is most effective. This is because soap actively destroys the surface of some viruses, and a soapy lather reduces the number of germs left on your skin. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be used to disinfect your hands when soap and water are not available.

b. Other Things to Consider:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or the crease of your elbow when you sneeze or cough instead of your hands
  • Do not share food, drinks, utensils, etc
  • Avoid unnecessary contact
  • Consider physical distancing
  • Wear a mask

c. Facility, Vehicle and Equipment Hygiene- Cleaning with products containing soap or detergent reduces germs on surfaces by removing contaminants and decreases the risk of infection from surfaces. During periods of communicable disease events, clean high-touch surfaces at least twice a day, or as often as determined necessary. Individuals should wear disposable gloves compatible with the products being used as well as any other PPE required according to the product manufacturer’s instructions.

3. Ventilation

a. During periods of communicable disease events limiting occupancy in facilities or vehicles should be considered. Ensure capacity limit guidelines as established by provincial legislation are adhered to.

4. Promotion of Employee Vaccinations

a. Go Flooring Ltd. will support Public Health messaging for vaccinations against pandemic or communicable disease events.

b. Go Flooring Ltd. recognizes the public health benefits of vaccination programs to reduce illness, disability, and death from community acquired diseases.

c. Go Flooring Ltd. recognizes every employee’s right to determine their own health choices and will not mandate employees to be vaccinated nor discriminate against employees who choose not to vaccinate.

Recently a number of Go Flooring Ltd.’s primary clients have implemented or will soon implement policies that require all visitors to their properties and/or sites to be fully vaccinated (considered 14 days after 2nd dose of a Health Canada approved Covid-19 vaccine) or to abide by mandatory testing protocols and other safety measures. In order to perform work for these clients, Go Flooring Ltd. is required to attest to the fact that all of our employees working on these sites meet the requirements prescribed by our clients’ vaccination policies. Vaccination status verification records will be kept for any staff assigned to worksites where a vaccination policy is in effect. Vaccination verification records can be found on each employee’s Personal Medical Data Form.
